Simplify your leadscrew selection process with our online configurator
When it comes to selecting the optimal lead screw for your application, navigating through various factors can be quite challenging, especially when considering issues like corrosion or high-speed requirements.
Here's a streamlined breakdown of the key factors to consider:
Load Capacity:
Assess your required load capacity. Contrary to misconception, our motion plastic nuts with stainless steel housing can handle significant loads—up to 1 ton for a 60X8 leadscrew—while remaining maintenance-free and without the need for lubrication.
Pressure-Velocity Factor (PV Factor):
The pv value is the product of velocity (V) and pressure (P). This value indicates the heat generated in the leadscrew nuts per unit of time. For our motion plastic material, a maximum PV value is usually indicated. This is the amount of heat that can be removed per time unit due to the heat dissipation capacity of the materials involved. If the heat generated exceeds this value then your leascrew nut will wear fast.
Efficiency:
The efficiency of a lead screw refers to how well a screw converts rotary energy (torque) into linear motion. Leadscrew Efficiency, ranging from 20% to 80%, correlates with helix angle. Our patented Dryspin technology efficiency is better than conventional high helix leadscrew.
Speed:
Continuous high-speed applications have limitations due to increased frictional heat and wear.

Duty Cycle:
Duty cycles vary, but even at low speeds, leadscrews can operate at 100% duty cycle but at high PV value ideally it should be less than 50% so that the system gets some time for cooling.
Backlash:
For precise positioning, backlash is critical. Anti-backlash mechanisms enhance repeatability but require higher torque.
Life:
Estimating lifespan involves complex considerations, particularly for applications operating near recommended limits.
Lubrication:
While bronze nuts require thick grease, motion plastic nuts can function without lubrication, though it can enhance performance. Environmental factors should guide lubrication selection.
