SIMPLICITY: Freedom from complexity
Every year, as the calendar flips to July 12, a gentle ripple of simplicity washes over us. This isn't just any other day – it's National Simplicity Day, a cherished occasion paying homage to the minimalist virtues that Henry David Thoreau held dear. Thoreau, the advocate of simple living, has a legacy that still whispers softly amidst our complex world, especially resonating within the realms of business and leadership.
How does one traverse the crowded corridors of business using simplicity as a compass? It sounds almost counterintuitive, doesn't it?
Well, Thoreau himself provides us with a guiding beacon,
"Our life is frittered away by detail… simplify, simplify."
This philosophy echoes the powerful statement by Aden Parker:
"We add value by removing things that don't."
What a profound concept, like a clear sky after a storm, offering the promise of clarity in the maze of our business endeavors.
Let's take a magnifying glass to three critical domains within our business universe: operational procedures, business goals and strategies, and communication channels. Each one can be refined, simplified, and elevated.
First, we turn to operational procedures, the intricate machinery at the heart of your business. If they become tangled and complex, the wheels of productivity grind to a halt.
Action Step: Examine your business practices closely.
Next, we step into the strategic sphere of your business goals. If these become a knotted mess, your team could lose sight of their purpose, and the performance of your business may falter.
Action Step: Polish and prune your business goals.
Last but not least, the lifeline of any organization: communication. When communication channels clog up, misunderstandings grow like weeds, blocking the path to progress.
Action Step: Implement clear, straightforward communication protocols.
By threading the needle of simplicity through these critical aspects of your business, you cultivate an environment ripe for growth and success. As leaders, it's our task to champion these principles and weave them into the fabric of our daily business practices.
At its core, National Simplicity Day isn't confined to a single day's celebration; it's a reminder that simplicity should permeate our approach to business. As we do in our personal lives, so should we in our businesses – unclutter, streamline, and make space for growth and productivity.
As we mark this day, let's pledge to embrace simplicity. By doing so, we honor Thoreau's legacy and uphold the tenets of simplicity in our leadership and business practices. In the wise words of Aden Parker, we truly create value by strategically removing elements that don't serve our overall objectives.
So, as the dawn of National Simplicity Day breaks, let's commit to simplifying our businesses.
Because, as Thoreau so eloquently put it, life truly is about simplifying.
Let's start today.

KISS?
Is it possible that KISS-ing (Keeping It Super Simple) could be one of the keys to achieving our hopes, dreams, aspirations and desires??
If something is overwhelming, seems exhausting, looks over complicated and like it'll be a lot like hard work – before we even begin - how likely will it be that you'll want to be partaking in whatever that is??
Especially if it's something that we either need to or should do for our health or wealth – but might not necessarily want to??
Is it possible that in a world that already moves sooooo fast, with sooooo many moving parts...?
... where seemingly ‘simple’ things, like what to do, how to eat, and how to move have been made sooooo complicated...?
... it's no wonder that folks are more disengaged and distracted than ever before??
And how is that working out for us??
Is it possible that the simple beauty of our own intuition has been lost to tech and gadgets and all sorts of things outside of ourselves telling us ‘what to do’ and ‘how we should feel’, that we've lost the simple art not only of trusting our gut, but even being able to know what it feels like??
(Except for if we got a bit too keen with a whole lotta cake or something!)?
How long has it been since you've created the simple space to allow your own ‘inner sage’ to advise you??
To hear and know the wisdom of our forefathers passed down through our genes that got us to here... what about that incredibly beautiful yet miraculous, simple wisdom??
How might a simple walk in nature, taking some big conscious breaths, or feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, should you be so blessed to have skin and a sun to warm it today, be of incredible benefit to us and the world around us??
Imagine if everyone did that??

For just 5 minutes a day??
How different would our world be today and every day??
Might that help increase our capacity for more??
More of the things that we actually desire??
Just by reinfusing some simplicity forward into our lives??
(Because there's no going ‘back’ from here)!
