Simplicity – the art of maximizing the amount of work not done – is essential

In the world we are living in right now, things have become more unpredictable and complicated with wars happening in some places, hype of AI that could potentially replace need of human in jobs, thus, indirectly forcing organization and people to constantly worry about the future and trying to survive in such an uncertain world.

But what really interesting is, worry usually doesn't bring us to where we plan to be. We need to train ourselves to be able to think, whether or not, to act or not to act in order to strive in this kind of world.

One interesting observations I had recently was that most organizations have somehow overengineered their systems making most people overloaded way even before they start their day. Let me explain, on a normal working day, one would most likely need:

  • MS Teams - for communication
  • Outlook - for communication
  • Confluence - for documentation
  • Jira - for communication & documentation
  • Service Now - for communication & documentation
  • Slack - for communication
  • Miro/Mural/Whiteboard - for collaboration, communication & documentation
  • MS PowerPoint - for presentation
  • MS World - for documentation
  • MS Excel - for documentation & calculation

The list goes on...

And more interestingly, if you observed, these are all tools; which means these are something that helps you, as a person, to be able to present ideas easily but not the idea itself. Instead, I think what really brings values are:

  • Brainstorming
  • Reading
  • Training
  • Learning
  • Doing
  • Casual conversation
  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner appointment
  • Sports session
  • Games

The list also goes on...

A system focus organization could maybe bring you a sense of control, but a human focus organization could bring you the future, as ideas come from human, not system (sorry AI, not until you become more mature :)).

Let's refocus back what human being is great at and let the system design follows, and not the other way round please!
