Simple Ways to Love Yourself for Your Health & Wellbeing

Today we are going to speak to loving one's self in the form of self-care. I know that when we are stressed or feeling depleted with all the chaos these days it can be even more difficult. However, it is ever more important to keep our minds and bodies in a healthy place. So here are some ideas for you to use in keeping yourself healthy by loving yourself enough to do these things even if it feels impossible.

1. Exercise: For myself, I really do not enjoy it a lot of the time, however, I also know as I age that it is even more important to get some every day. I know this because when I sit for too many hours at my computer working, my body is not very happy when I get up - so that is an indicator for myself that I need to move around more. Our bodies require movement to get the lymph system running well which is important for our immune system. We also need it to keep our heart healthy, our bones strong, our ligaments healthy, our muscles in good shape. So, even though there are days when I would love to skip it, I get off my butt and fit some exercise in and I highly suggest the same for you. An extra benefit is that exercise will allow for your happy neurotransmitters to be released allowing you to feel emotionally better.

2. Food: this is a big one because many times when we are feeling stressed out we humans will eat more food and usually the garbage that is available - empty carbs usually in bags that add zero nutrients and lots of simple carbs. I know that these things are horrific for my health - pretzels are lower fat but made with wheat so not so good for the microbiome, potato chips are made in so-called vegetable oil (these oils are made from seeds actually and highly processed and terrible for one's health given the high temperatures they are processed at and the added problem of their breaking down over time if not used). So, best to be much more thoughtful with the whole foods one eats - and make sure it is whole foods - one-item foods you are choosing. My favorites are really sweet cherry tomatoes that I can get here in Isreal. You will need to find what works for you.

3. Information that we allow into our minds. There is a lot of terrifically negative information in the news - so don't watch it! And, on the internet one needs to choose those items that will allow one to feel enlivened. There are so many really great podcasts/Youtube videos out there teaching everything from how to build a business to spirituality, psychology, etc. Choose well so you are building yourself up.

4. The people in our lives: this can be a difficult one especially if you are a minor and living in a family where life can be challenging given the personality types. However, we all are able to choose who our friends are and are not. I suggest that you hang with people who share your values, interests while bringing you some sunshine emotionally speaking. No one needs to be around people who are going to drag one down under any circumstances, never mind all the garbage we are dealing with these days. So, choose well.

5. Self-talk: It is very easy to give ourselves a lot of negative self-talk as we go through difficult times. I would suggest that you become aware of it as best you can and as you do, give yourself a positive message. For myself, I get down on the fact that I haven't done all the stuff that I thought I ought to do, and then I realize that I have been working for hours and to give myself some slack.

6. Spirituality: I am not a religious person, though I am a spiritual person in that I am always aiming to be a better person and bring love and care to those who enter my world. The Kabbalists teach us to be a channel for God's work by sharing our talents and skills with others to fill their vessels. Likewise, it is important to have supportive and loving people to fill our vessels as life is a cycle of giving and receiving. So, give and receive in a manner that feels equitable.

Learning: We need to demonstrate self-love by taking care of ourselves especially when we need to dig deep to make it happen. In so doing we will feel much better about ourselves and invite much healthier people into our lives.
