Everyone struggles with procrastination sometime.
For me, it shows up when my energy is low and I have way too many things on my plate. Next thing, the temptation to get distracted kicks in. Then, to correct, I force progress with even less time to complete the task.
But what changed for me was realizing that procrastination is a symptom.
There is some kind of fear that I am avoiding - like the fear of failure.
And as soon as that clicked, I started to understand that overcoming procrastination wasn't that hard—I was just doing the wrong thing.
Here's what I should have done instead:
Completely surrender to failing
According to neuroscientists, my brain can't tell the difference between imagination and reality.
So why not imagine how I feel when I fail and surrender to it. That means I totally accept the failure, the opposite of what I had been doing. It is freeing. I can take action in a neutral state.
Visualize the feeling of success
Visualize how great it will feel with a successful next task, just as an athlete might do.
Make a simple process and start
A process is a set of tasks. Make a simple process and start. Success is inevitable if the work is completed.
Use deadlines and rewards
Every task has a timeline, so make it work for you with enough time pressure to move. Reward yourself for the wins.?
