A simple way to keep goal focussed...

I worked wth a team recently who were finding it difficult to get things completed. They clearly needed a new approach to their work to get out of this rut. After trying few "stock" things, they agreed to try a very simple new idea. This was it...

The team had daily standups - a habit from their old Scrum days (but they certainly weren't doing Scrum in any meaningful sense), and had a whiteboard. At the top of the whiteboard, they wrote - in big letters - the next goal they wanted to acheive. Kind of a Sprint Goal, but not timeboxed.

Every day, they cleaned the whiteboard, apart from the goal, and wrote down the things they would do today to move towards the goal. Having agreed on the tasks, they then (and only then) agreed who would do each task.

And that was it!

Very simple, but very effective, and their performance, as a team, improved immeasurably.

You don't always need complex frameworks and rules to make things - KISS, folks!

thanks for sharing! Great to read how small simple ideas can produce great impact in the teams. btw, had to read twice "habit from their old Scrum days" XD
