Red Flags to Look for When Dealing with Gearbox Repair Companies.
Time and time again you will see repair companies offering you a package deal of free shipping, a 60% savings on a gearbox repair all bundled with an "Unbelievable Warranty" for three, four, five and six years from the date of installation. Wow! This sounds like every plant decision makers dream come true!
These are the serious red flags that you should be aware of that will often lead to your gearbox becoming hostage in a repair shop.
1: Multiple Locations:Most of these companies will post that they have multiple locations. Many times you can "Google Map" their addresses in satellite view and it will be a mailer store, P.O. Box, warehouse up for lease, or even worse; their home address. A true honest business will be Google Verified by address.
2: 60% Savings right from the start? Let us do the math for a second and think about this e.g. let's say the job is gonna cost you $10k subtract $6k "60%" the less the trucking that is $1000 each way. (Even though they offer it for free, someone has to pay for it) Now they are at $2000 in our repair budget. This is not a sufficient budget for a good machine repair. How do these GREAT Companies "OR PEOPLE WORKING OUT OF THER HOUSE" perform this magic and turn a profit? They've already invested more than 75%. Then, they claim to be the best? How? They are not. It's all false advertisement. 99% of the time, the work is sub contracted. And You will be left footing the bill. "That's Magical" isn't it? No. It's Bupkis. In Yiddish the word means goat or horse stool.
3:Ludicrous Extended Warranties from the date of Installation!?!? For example, the largest company in the world by market cap, Apple, will only give you a twelve-month warranty for free with the option of purchasing additional years This is what we call GOOD BUSINESS. No company will give you a Four, Five, or Six year Warranty for free especially on heavy machinery that is very prone to failures UNLESS YOUR LOOKING AND TALKING TO A PHONEY.
4: Upon installation: Like they haven't hung them selves enough?...they will over sell themselves and say "UPON INSTALLATION" WOW What a company! what if it's a spare and you don't not ever install it. NONSENSE!
5. They always have a truck in the area? Many time you will find the people work out of their home, but will tell you THEY HAVE THEIR OWN FLEET. If it is too good to be true it probably is.
Location. Location. Location! Just because a machine shop is close to you, that does not always mean that YOU WILL GET THE GREATEST RESULTS on your gearbox repair. Sure, they may be within arms reach, but this doesn't mean you will get your machine back any faster or at a better cost. Sometimes going the extra mile to ship your machine a further distance, to a more reputable company with the experience and expertise, will provide you with he operational results you deserve."e.g. People go to Arizona to better there health from Arthritis, that same analogy applies to your expensive rotational machinery".
By taking note of these 5 Red flags, you can help yourself avoid a world of headaches, when it comes to dealing with a Bupkis machinery repair company. Its always best to find someone with a really good track record that is experienced with the knowledge and armed with the right tools to get your job done.
