It is the Simple Things we do that Matter
For a long while now, I have been persuading everyone that can hear me arise and take care of the environment. Some have been wondering what it is that they should do to be part of this noble task. Must I conduct or attend a clean-up event? Or must I join the millions of people in tree planting expeditions? These and so many other questions have been asked. This article makes it easy for you to understand what you can do. It is the little things that matter a lot.
It is a collective call for all to take total responsibility for the different places they are and ensure cleanliness. This will save the environment havoc wrecked by solid, liquid and gaseous wastes. Kenyans and people around the world may not realize the impact of putting the sweets wrappers and banana peelings among other wastes at the right place. Until people understand how many tons of wastes they will have taken care of by such a small act of responsibility. Imagine if all the more than 44 million people in Kenya would put wastes around them at the right place!
Also, imagine if all ensured that wherever places they are are kept clean! What a meticulous view! What if one took a personal initiative of ensuring that the place they are was clean and habitable for the next person? People have a tendency of thinking less about the next person, therefore deteriorating sense of humanity. The call to environmental conservation is a call to humanity.
What if someone just decided to use water sparingly such that taps are not left flowing throughout as one brushes their teeth as well as the showers not left to run throughout as one takes their bath! You can’t imagine how many million litres of water will be saved.
Take a moment and think about how it shall be if all the people in Kenya planted just one tree a year! I won’t tell you how much vegetation cover we shall have restored in 10 years. The greater impact would be if everyone on the planet got involved. Kenya would achieve the 10% vegetation cover and exceed before the year 2030.
What is your little thing? You can get involved today. If you are not able to plant a tree, you can protect the one next to you. You can tidy the area around you. You can plant a flower in a vase. So much can be done. Let us join together to push this conservation mission. It is the little things that matter a lot!
