1.?Lighting is Crucial??

If you’re in a hurry and need to scan and send a document on the go, you probably won’t bother to look for the best-lit location. However, if you’ve got time and want the best possible quality, lighting is the first thing you need to look at. Here’s a short list of conditions that ensure the best scanning results:?

• Natural indirect light.?There’s a reason why “plenty of natural light” is one of the main features people look for when buying a house. Natural light is good for everything, including our health and work. Lots of natural light is perfect for high-quality scans.
• No flash. Professional interior photographers prefer to avoid using flash whenever possible, but when there’s no alternative, they shoot with the flash facing away from their object. That would be because light travels in straight lines. Same rules apply to mobile scanning. Try to avoid using flash, especially with glossy or semi-gloss paper.
• No harsh overhead lights.?Overhead lights create sharp shadows that you definitely don’t want in your scans. Sometimes avoiding shadows can be extremely difficult, if not impossible. After all, you need to hold your phone over the document to be able to take a shot, don’t you? Luckily, modern apps can deal with this problem. Dust, sand, and grease on the lens can significantly impair the quality of your pictures and scans. Therefore, it might be a good idea to always have a microfiber cloth with you.

If you’re after the best possible quality, try to hold your phone directly above the document. Ideally, the camera should be positioned parallel to the paper to avoid perspective distortion.
