Simple Solutions to Forklift-Free Handling

Utilizing pallet jacks likely necessitates the need for ground-level access lifts. Below are three options and their appropriate applications.

Material handling solutions aim to simplify the movement of object X, which can be inherently complex.

The challenge is to find the easiest, quickest, and most efficient method to transport a box from Point A to B, and potentially to Points C, D, E, and beyond. Overlooking this aspect can decelerate production, cause bottlenecks, and negatively impact the company's financial health.

Moreover, ensuring safety and ergonomic optimization for workers is crucial. Workman's compensation claims can cost manufacturing companies billions annually, aside from the consequences of severe injuries.

To minimize errors, certain zones may be designated as forklift-free areas. Alternatives then include manually carrying each box, employing pack mules (which is not advisable), or using pallet jacks.

These efficient pallet trucks can handle loads ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 pounds, covering numerous applications. It's important to note that pallet jacks only slightly elevate pallets off the ground, making them incompatible with conventional scissor lifts in the facility. Ground-level access lifts are designed to accommodate these hand trucks, allowing for easy pallet transfer.

Here is an overview of three types of lifts from Presto Lifts, crafted to streamline your material handling process:

Floor Height Lifts

These hydraulic scissor lifts feature a pan-style platform that descends completely to the ground. With a low height of 3/8-inch, they allow a pallet jack to roll directly onto the platform. The XZ Series from Presto Lifts can elevate pallet loads of up to 6,000 lbs to a height of 35 inches. Notable features include a 6-inch rubber toe guard and a maintenance prop that secures the platform in the base.

"The XZ is excellent for use with a pallet truck, offering access from all four sides," remarks Rick daSilva, National Sales Manager for Presto Lifts, who also highlights the ergonomic advantages. "For taller loads, the ability to lower to ground level eliminates the height of the pallet, which is roughly seven inches, from the equation."

This positioning optimizes the worker's level for handling tasks and minimizes the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Floor Level Container Tilters

For pallets, either of the first two options are suitable, but tilters have the advantage of being able to shift the orientation of your load by up to 89 degrees.

This feature is particularly useful for wire baskets with loose components, as the higher the tilter angle, the easier it is to access parts at the back of the basket.

For soft-walled gaylords, the steel side supports, known as platens, prevent the load from spilling off the tray.

The ZRT floor-level container tilter boasts a capacity of up to 4,000 pounds and a lift speed of 26-28 seconds.
