Simple Solution for Seniors to Get Employment

Simple Solution for Seniors to Get Employment

THE OPINIONS EXPRESSED IN THIS ARTICLE ARE SOLELY THOSE OF THE AUTHOR.

Seniors have a skill that is becoming a lost art. They also know how to type. They need jobs because, among other things, Social Security is not enough. They are willing to work. Many take jobs that would have gone to high school students or simply entry level positions. That's obviously not a good thing for anyone.

The Federal Government apparently will be saving a lot of money by eliminating waste, including getting rid of employees who, some may believe, were hired to boost employment figures seeing that Federal employment, read: bureaucracy, grew at an unprecedented rate under the previous administration. From DEI (or is it DEIA?) closures to IRS hiring freezes, it is safe to assume that tens of thousands of federal jobs will disappear. It is also safe to assume that those employees were paid, or budgeted to be paid, significantly more than seniors can expect to be paid if my suggestion, herein presented, were to be accepted.

What is my suggestion? you ask. A portion of the savings from the Trump firing of the Biden hires should go to hire seniors who have a "superpower" - they can read cursive.

The National Archives has a very popular program for volunteers to transcribe historical documents written in cursive. Volunteers are thrilled to become "Citizen Archivists." It's a simple process. All one needs is an internet connection and computer. Moreover, it's a remote job!

For job seekers, volunteering looks great on a resume and can fill the dreaded "resume gap," but paying those who require additional income would truly be a service to those in need.

Seniors earn money. The Archives get the work done they need even quicker than at present with volunteers alone. If someone still wants to work for free, let them. Apparently, there are more than enough documents to go around! Let's help those who need additional income and those who need to feel useful. It's a win-win for everyone.

If you agree, share this article. Get the word out. Maybe someone in authority will make it happen.

Sounds like a great idea. I would consider volunteering but for the fact I would like additional income!
