Simple Rules for Color Palette in Web Design

Introduction:

A colour scheme is a deciding factor that can make a website look aesthetically pleasing and drive lead conversions.

Its simple colour affects human emotions and behaviour. For example, here are some real-life examples:

  • Red: Urgency
  • Green: Nature
  • Blue: Trustworthiness

When choosing colours for a website, follow these three rules:

  • Primary Color: This should be very light because it fills 60% of the website. Choose wisely. If in doubt, useful tools linked Down below
  • Secondary Color: This should be very contrasting as it fills 30% of the website. I usually prefer dark blue, purple, dark green or black.
  • Accent Color: This should be more prominent and different from the primary and secondary colours. It should only be applied to calls to action (CTAs) and will fill 10% of the website.
