The Simple Rule to Nail Your 2025 Goals

The Simple Rule to Nail Your 2025 Goals

Happy 12.12!

We are officially a few weeks away from the new year. For me, December is not only a month of celebration but also a time for reflection and goal setting for the new year.

Looking back, I did not expect 2024 to turn out the way it did. However, reflecting on the goals I set for 2024, I am pleased to note that I have achieved at least 80-90% of them. Interestingly, some of these achievements came in ways I hadn't anticipated.

In reviewing my goals, I had two observations:

  • Life often throws us curveballs, causing our plans to deviate or making us feel that's the end.?? However, it's essential to remember that there is always more than one path to our goals.
  • Most of the goals that I have achieved were broken down into smaller, manageable steps.

This second observation made me realise the critical importance of breaking down our goals, both personal and professional, into actionable steps.

It’s so simple yet profound. ??

We all have goals, missions, and big dreams. But if we don't get the execution right, no matter how brilliant the goals and strategies are, we will never be able to achieve them.

As the Chinese proverb goes: “不积跬步,无以至千里;不积小流,无以成江海” – "Without accumulating small steps, one cannot reach a thousand miles; without accumulating small streams, one cannot form rivers and seas."

So when setting goals, remember to break them down further into smaller and manageable steps. This also helps us to see the value of steady, continuous improvements.

Progress, no matter how small, is still progress.

I hope this provides a valuable reflection point ?? as you plan for 2025.

My brother recently said something that has really stuck with me: when you're feeling overwhelmed by a big task/goal/objective, figure out the specific element that is the challenge and reduce the task/goal/objective to that. Breaking big goals down is super important as you're saying, and I really appreciated his thought on how exactly to break them down. Thanks for your thoughts!
