A simple reminder of how we love high school sports

Every year I open it up with anticipation, the Altoona Mirror's annual "Mirror All Stars", its print date is typically the first weekend in April and its hard to believe its now in its 34th year. Its an annual reminder of how high school sports showcase the abilities of young people and also how it brings communities together. I grew up in Central Pennsylvania and still cherish the love of high school sports that people have here. The chance to look through the "Past Players Of The Year" showcases several who have reached the NBA and WNBA, our state's all time scoring leader, and a member of a UCONN women's basketball national championship team. It also includes many who have went on to become coaches, doctors, and teachers among other professions; most importantly they impacted others in a positive way.
Those successes of so many bring hope that these boys and girls can use the experiences they gained in sports to be the leaders of tomorrow. I know there are many other communities out there who share this same love for high school sports, its camaraderie, its teamwork, its a simple reminder of why we love it so much!
