Burnout is no joke. Pushing yourself to utter exhaustion day after day leads to depleted motivation, fractured focus, and feeling completely overwhelmed. If left uncecked this can snowball and lead to more serious issues as depresion, chronic fatigue, and other stress impacted illnesses like heart attacks. As we head into the hectic holiday season, here are some primal tips to renew your energy and passion if you feel burned out or better yet, before you get over-taxed.
What is Burnout?
In short, burnout happens when the demands upon you exceed your ability to cope mentally, physically, or spiritually. You may feel utterly exhausted yet unable to rest. Cynicism sets in along with disconnection from responsibilities and activities that once brought joy. The key is realizing burnout before it gets severe. These tips are designed to help you manage stress proactively and avoid complete flame out.
Tips to Recover:
Simplify - Pare down obligations and busyness by decluttering your calendar, to-do's, and physical space. Focus on essential to-dos first and delegate, outsource, or schedule the rest. This frees up mental and physical bandwidth to focus on what matters most.
Nourish - Eat nourishing food with plenty of healthy fats like avocado, salmon, and nuts to repair and restore. Incorporate gentle cleansing foods like bone broth, greens, and berries to reduce inflammation. Proper nutrition provides the building blocks to renew and keep your body and mind running strong.
Unwind - Make time for genuine relaxation through baths, massage, meditation, or just deep breathing. Prioritizing activities that spark calm and joy and letting go of tension recharges your batteries. Even a few minutes, here and there, scattered throughout your day can make a big difference in the long term.
Touch Nature - Spend time outdoors moving your body every day to reconnect with nature. Sunlight, fresh air, earthing, immune-boosting microbes and the terpenes (think subtle scents) released by plants all help to revitalize. Never underestimate the power of a simple walk.

Community - Don't isolate. We're wired for connection and we wither without it. Lean on social support from friends, family, and groups who lift you up. Find a sense of belonging through shared experiences.
Laugh - Find humor and lightness through funny shows, laughing yoga, or coffee with a jovial friend. Laughter counters the tendency toward cynicism and reminds you not to take life, or yourself, too seriously.
Sleep - Prioritize deep, restorative sleep by optimizing your bedroom for darkness, coolness and peace. Experts agree, 7-9 hours of quality sleep allows our mind and body to fully rejuvenate.
The key with all these tips is to find ways to incorporate them into your life without inducing additional stress. Some days we will do better than others, so just focus on doing your best today and trust the process. Recovering from burnout takes time but following these principles will rebuild your reserves.
