The simple method of 1-1-1

The simple method of 1-1-1

In this digital era where every ping sound, signals an opportunity or a task, the essence of timely communication cannot be overstated. The pulse of business, the rhythm of professional relations, and the melody of trust play out on the vast stage of email communication. From the cubicles of our offices to the far reaches where our stakeholders thrive, every email carries a note of expectation, waiting to be acknowledged, addressed, and appreciated. This understanding drove me to craft a simple yet profound rule of engagement and email communication that works for me - Method of 1-1-1.

The triple 1 method, is no arcane code but a commitment to value the time and trust embedded in each email. The method is straightforward:

Respond within 1 minute if feasible, within 1 hour if engaged, and within 1 day if away. It's not about racing against time, but about respecting it, about honouring the trust vested in each communication.

Of course, prioritizing emails according to your understanding of prioritisation, is key to effectively complete a chain of communication and potential tasks.

The genesis of this rule was organic, stemming from my daily dalliance with emails.

Each timely response wasn't merely a ticked off task, but a step towards building a culture of respect, responsiveness, and reliability.

I soon realized that the 'method of 111' was not just a personal practice, but a philosophy that could resonate across the professional spectrum.

Whether it's a seasoned executive, a curious student, or a potential partner, every email is a doorway to not just share information but to forge a connection, to build a bridge of trust. It's not merely about how swiftly you respond, but how sincerely you engage.

It’s not a rigid doctrine but a friendly nudge to nurture a culture where emails are not just transactions, but trust-building interactions.

So, as you orchestrate your email responses, remember, it’s not about the tick-tock of reply time, but the heartfelt tune of engagement that echoes long after. The 'method of 111' is a simple refrain, a call to transform each email interaction from a mundane task into a meaningful touchpoint, from just another to-do into a trust token.

In implementing and crafting the 'method of 111', I have not just streamlined my email communication but discovered a richer, deeper vein of professional engagement. It’s a small step towards a culture where trust is the cornerstone, efficiency is the hallmark, and genuine interest is the catalyst for enduring, enriching relationships.

P.S. And remember, efficient and effective email communication is not only vital for your day-to-day but also a skill that engages even more skills (prioritization, time management, relationship building etc.).
