The Simple Message From A Stable

1: The state of being simple, uncomplicated, or uncompounded

I have talked to a lot of people about simplifying life, paring things down, saying no, etc. Susanne and I did this in 2020 when we sold our 3,700 sq. ft. home that we lived in for 10 years and moved into a 35 ft. RV. However, when we simplify things in our lives, it ends up inevitably that over time, we just fill it all back up again.

Earlier this month I was reading the book of Luke about the birth of Jesus. At that time, the expectant Jewish community was waiting for a Messiah that would come and restore Israel and overthrow the Roman government. They missed the simplicity of the birth of Jesus in a lowly stable.

An incredibly profound and unimaginable entry for a king. Something that we still cannot imagine, God coming to us in human form. And He came with no grand entrance, no celebration. He came to us in the simplest of ways; a baby born in a stable. His message was simple, love God, love others.

Yes, for centuries since, we have complicated it.

There are so many things that we store up in our lives that make it overly complex and difficult. We cling to relationships, our jobs, wealth, health, and material possessions as a means of finding safety. But, the reality is, as we have seen, life has a way of cutting through the clutter and bringing on the unexpected. And, I speak to many who when life is at the height of complexity, they feel angst, worry, and anger.

Perhaps you are complicating your life and making it far too complex. Perhaps it is time to simplify things, get back to whom God created you to be, and clear the "stuff" that is making things overly complex.

Decide as an individual and a family what you want your life to look like.?Decide which of those things that you need to hold onto and what things are no longer a benefit to you. Decide on those things that are life-giving and remember that you always have the power to choose but keep in mind how your choices affect others.?
