The simple instant reframe question for success
Henry Ford once said, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't — you're right." This simple yet profound statement reveals a fundamental truth about our mindset and its impact on our lives.
Your Google Brain
Consider your brain as a search engine, much like Google. The queries we input determine the results we get. When faced with a life challenge, when we tell ourselves, "I can't because....", your brain, like a diligent search engine, will provide you with all the reasons why you can't. And so, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy of limitation.
Flipping the script
But what if we flipped the script?
Imagine asking, "How can I do this?" Suddenly, your internal "Google" search engine starts churning out ways to overcome the challenge, the obstacle. Your unconsious mind now offers you solutions you hadn't considered, and different pathways to success.
It's the same brain, the same search engine, but with a different query, yielding vastly different results.
Reframing your question
The distinction lies in the framing of your questions. Negative questions reinforce a fixed mindset, a belief that abilities and situations are static and unchangeable. Positive, solution-focused questions, on the other hand, foster a growth mindset. They encourage the belief that development and success are possible through effort and persistence.
The negative question trap
So, how do we reframe our internal questions?
It starts with awareness. Recognize when you're slipping into the negative question trap. Press Pause. Then, consciously rephrasing your question to a positive one. Instead of "Why does this always happen to me?", try "What can I learn from this experience? or "What's good about this I'm not seeing?"
It's a simple, yet powerful shift, but it requires practice. Like any practice, the more you do it, the more natural it becomes. And as this habit takes root, you'll find your outlook on challenges and setbacks transforming. Where once you only saw roadblocks, now there are stepping stones to growth, answers and learning.
Our questions shape our thinking and therefore our results
Remember, the questions we ask ourselves shape our thinking, our actions, and ultimately, our results. By choosing to ask empowering, solution-focused questions, we open up a world of possibilities.
The power of 'can' is immense. It's a matter of making sure we ask our 'Google" brain the right questions. Because, in the end, whether you think you can, or you think you can't — you're right!
