BOOK REVIEW by Vincent Ogutu
There are books and there are books that remain unforgettable. The book on mental health with more emphasis on understanding depression, its symptoms, treatment interventions and policies that can help with coping with depression at the workplace is a gem.
The Author is a great storyteller; she has unraveled the mystery about depression and makes the subject easy to understand. Daido has created a power packed knowledge on depression in the guidebook. The book is organized in three parts with a total of nineteen chapters that are well organized and expertly narrated. The use of personal experiences adds to the authenticity and makes the book a must read resource.
The book starts with a comprehensive review of depression, types of depression, levels of depression, causes of depression, symptoms of depression, coping with depression and the first part ends with a personal story. The second part of the book examines the workplace dynamics with regard to depression. The chapters include depression at the workplace, handling depression at the workplace as an employee, handling depression at the workplace as employers, the role of colleagues at the workplace ending with another powerful personal story of the author’s experience.

The last part of the book addresses the legal concerns around mental health and depression. The rights of persons’ with mental health are expertly handled. The author gives tips on resolution of conflict at the workplace, and handling losses occasioned by mental health at the workplace. Lastly the author shares a personal story on her experience in a work environment.
In the last part of the book, the author is generous in providing sources and resources available in handling mental health. I highly recommend this book based on the author's expertise and authenticity. First she is an advocate of the high court; she is an accredited mediator as well as a trained counselor. The combination of various disciplines has enabled the author to create a resource that will contribute to the discourse and understanding and making mental health a better understood phenomena because we are all involved directly and indirectly.
