A Simple Gift or Two in the Mail

A lot of surprises are not welcomed by people. But some can be pleasant, not hard to do, and create more goodwill than any cost involved. Such was the case with a set of salt and pepper shakers.

Lawry's The Prime Rib is one of our favorite restaurants. With it being in the name, the prime rib is awesome. Dining at Lawry's is more than being about the food. It's an experience. Service is great. Atmosphere is a cut (ha!) above most other steakhouses.

Prior to the arrival of the pandemic we had received two sets of salt in pepper as used in the restaurants. Simple, but it was an exciting gift. Twice! A great way to get a taste of the restaurant that encouraged us to go back for dinner.

Then covid hit. Everything shut down. A casualty (amongst the thousands if not millions of restaurants) Lawry's closed their Chicago location. Sold off their bar and inventory. And that was it.

But the salt and pepper shaker still worked. For my mother's birthday this year, it was not possible to take her there for dinner. But...but they began a new offering called "Lawy's at Home". You order the complete meal (less a salad, but with the dressing) and it all arrives to be cooked at home.

And order that meal was inspired by seeing that salt in pepper in my spice cabinet.
