I've had the privilege of interacting with some of the most successful fintech founders and leaders. Here are a few key lessons I've learned from them that are still just as relevant today as they were when fintech started taking off a decade ago.
Solve Real Issues People Care About
Granted, this is true for almost any startup—look for frustrations or problems people have with banking, payments, investing, etc. Create a solution that genuinely helps and adds value.
Follow the Rules.
Fintech has lots of regulations to protect consumers. Don't see rules as barriers. Build compliance into your business from the start. Work with regulators and make security a top priority.
Always Keep Innovating.
Finance is constantly changing.
Your startup must adapt.
Encourage an environment of creative thinking and experimentation.
Don't be afraid to try new ideas and pivot when needed.
Partner Up.
You can't succeed alone, especially in fintech. Seek out collaborators. Partner with banks, tech companies, investors, etc. Gain access to resources, industry expertise, and customers.
Obsess Over User Experience.
Make your products simple and delightful to use. Gather feedback constantly to identify friction points. Smooth out every part of the customer journey.
Hire the Best.
Your team is your biggest competitive advantage. Attract top talent and create an environment for growth. Build a diverse group with complementary skills.
