Simple does NOT mean easy!
Three years ago, my wife and I decided to escape the city of Boston upon our return from Vail and head up to our home in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, right at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We thought we'd only be here for a couple of weeks to flatten the curve, but we're still here three years later!
And let me tell you, living in the mountains has been an incredible journey. We've had to simplify our lives in so many ways, and it's been amazing to see how this simplicity has impacted our work and personal lives. We've been able to streamline our processes, simplify our communication, and focus on what truly matters. This has not only made us more productive but it's also given us a better work-life balance.
I'm passionate about this topic because embracing simplicity can make all the difference in our lives. After all, I have always introduced myself as Don Jones, a simple guy from Rhode Island!
However, complexity is often viewed as a badge of honor in the technology and software industry. Companies love showcasing their highly sophisticated systems and processes, like a fraternity hazing ritual. But in reality, this complexity slows down onboarding, engagement, and productivity. By focusing on the essentials and letting go of the things that don't matter, we can create work processes that are more efficient, effective, and empowering. This is what makes work not only more accessible but also more enjoyable.
So how do I keep it simple? I'm glad you asked! Next week, I'll share three tips for keeping things simple, even in the fast-paced software world! I'll be giving you all my secrets for streamlining processes, communicating effectively, and prioritizing what matters. So be sure to stay tuned!
Let's embrace simplicity in our personal and professional lives. We can find success, fulfillment, and happiness by focusing on what truly matters. Let's do this!
