Overview - DevOps
In a typical operations & support scenario, development team is treated as the makers of software while Ops team is treated as managers of delivered software, which created ruckus between the teams and ultimately impacted the end users and business continuity. The core driver behind DevOps is to fast track the resolution to challenges faced, once the software is into production.
It is a practice in which operations and development engineers participate together to ensure full software delivery. Starting from design through the development process to production support. DevOps is also characterized by operations staff making use of many of the developer techniques. DevOps is closely associated with Agile and Lean approaches.
DevOps Principles - The common & agreed principle is "Infrastructure as code", which entails the automation and smooth management of infrastructure/Software. It is generally the widening of Agile principles with inclusion of automation of systems and operations. The core principle is continuous integration, deployment and improvement.
DevOps Values - The values are similar to mentioned the values mentioned in Agile manifesto but with overall service or software delivery and not a working piece of it.
DevOps Methods - The methods used are generally similar to methods used in Agile, Kanban or Lean approaches. The distinction is automated responses to incidents and its management, monitoring and integration of Ops with Dev, QA and Products.
DevOps Tools - With automation as theme there are many tools for Release management, Configuration Management, Orchestration, Monitoring, Virtualization and Containerization. An exhaustive list of popular DevOps tools is available at (not published by me ! ): https://stackify.com/top-devops-tools.
