Simon Sinek: We Need DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS

So many amazing and correct points in this Simon Sinek clip about Difficult Conversations. For example, "We don't teach the skills, we don't teach active listening. We don't teach executives or any employee in our company how to make someone else feel heard. Feel understood. Feel seen. If that can happen all kinds of other things (are possible), trust builds, etc."

My Commentary

As usual the terms used are great, and so are the good intentions. But when it comes to what to do next - it's all wrong.

Whether we're training for it or not - we don't need to force ourselves to have difficult conversations. Shutting people into a room together and telling them to deal with their problems won't accomplish anything.

We all have our own unique perspective of the world, but we need to connect in an optimal manner with others to fully access it.

The right way to go about it is to bring people together to define a common purpose and work on strengthening what we have in common.

It is only after we've grounded ourselves with these two foundations that we can gradually open up and speak about our problems. But from the light issues to the more challenging. Not to dive right into the tough stuff straight at the beginning.

We can't just make people deal with their problems out of the blue, first we need to work on strengthening what we have in common. This is about connecting above our differences. And it's not only a matter of gender, skin color, race, age, sexual preferences, etc. We all have our own unique perspective of the world, but we need to connect in an optimal manner with others to fully access it.
