After in-depth discussions, Simba Global and BSS Commerce identified the best approach: developing a Magento-based B2B website complemented by a Progressive Web App (PWA).

A PWA is a web-based application that provides an app-like experience on any device - without requiring separate native apps for iOS or Android. By adopting a PWA, Simba Global could offer customers fast, reliable, and engaging experiences without the high costs and complexities associated with traditional mobile app development.

This strategic move allowed the company to:

Building a Scalable B2B Website and PWA Solution

1. Seamless Website Migration and Setup

BSS Commerce successfully facilitated the website migration for Simba Global, transferring important data from their existing platforms to the new Magento site with the fewest possible glitches. The migration of data involved several key aspects:

  • Customer Data: Using the Firebear module, the BSS team exported customer data from three existing stores and imported them to the new website, including both registered and guest accounts.
  • Order Data: Historical orders were carefully migrated while maintaining the connection between customers, products, and transaction details.
  • Product Data: All products were consolidated into a single catalog, ensuring that unlisted items appeared as static references for clarity. Product details such as IDs, attributes, and images remained intact.
  • Category Migration: Product categories from the previous stores were reorganized to align with the new website’s navigation.

In addition to data migration, the BSS Commerce team also ensured that key operational aspects were properly set up:

  • Domain Setup: The new site https://shop.simba.global, offering a dedicated B2B area.
  • Implemented Theme: The site was built on the default Magento theme, ensuring a responsive and high-performance experience across all devices.
  • Language: The website operates in English, tailoring for the main audience without multilingual support.
  • Currency Settings: All transactions are processed?in AUD (Australian Dollars) to align with Simba Global’s primary market.
  • Source and Stock Management: Inventory is centrally managed from their main warehouse.

2. Enhanced Website Design for a Better User Experience

BSS Commerce designed an intuitive and efficient frontend to ensure easy navigation and an improved shopping experience. Key features include:

  • Secure Login & Registration: A simplified yet secure login and registration page tailored for B2B customers.
  • Product and Category Pages: Customers can see category pages with layered navigation and sorting options to help them find products quickly.
  • Search and Comparison Functionality: The enhanced search results page enables users to find products more easily and also includes product comparison features to help customers determine which product best suits their needs.
  • Streamlined Cart and Checkout Process: The cart page offers a full overview of selected items and total costs before following through to a seamless checkout process and secure transaction completion.

3. B2B Features to Improve Customer Engagement

To improve the user experience for Simba Global’s customers, BSS Commerce has delivered a wide range of B2B functionalities. The key functions include:

  • B2B Force Login: This feature forces users to log in before accessing some pages of the site. If a non-logged-in user attempts to access a restricted page, they receive a prompt to log in, ensuring that important information is protected.
  • B2B Registration Form: A simple registration process enables new B2B customers to create an account using necessary details like their ABN number, company information, etc. This means that Simba Global will be able to verify legitimate business accounts before granting access.
  • Company account management: Customers of the company account can manage sub-users under their main account, such as assigning roles and permissions to each sub-user. It makes team management easier, offering order?processing and role delegation.
  • Minimum order amount and custom pricing: A minimum order amount can be set by admins along with custom pricing for customer groups. Furthermore, Simba Global can impose a minimum?order amounts for each customer group to ensure that sales targets are achieved.
  • Multiple wishlists and reorder product list: Customers can make multiple wishlists to quickly manage products purchased frequently and reorder products from the purchase history for a better shopping experience.

4. Website Integration

To extend the features of Simba Global’s new Magento website, BSS Commerce implemented several key integrations:

  • Magento-Mailchimp integration: Automated marketing emails for promotions, orders, and customer engagement while maintaining existing subscriber lists.
  • The Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 setup: Provides insights into visitor behavior, conversion rates, and marketing performance to optimize business strategies.

Optimizing Mobile Experience with PWA Enhancements

BSS Commerce has enhanced the PWA mobile experience for Simba Global by implementing several key features that cater to customer engagement.?

  • Push Notifications: Allows admins to send real-time updates and promotions to customers, even when they are not actively browsing the site.
  • Scheduled Notifications: Admins can personalize notifications with custom titles, descriptions, images, and scheduled delivery times.


The Development Process

BSS Commerce and Simba Global worked closely throughout the project, ensuring seamless communication and efficient execution. With the use of Microsoft Teams, both teams stayed aligned, making the development process smooth and transparent. BSS Commerce remained focused and enthusiastic about the project, determined to deliver it on time and meet all the needs of Simba Global throughout the entire development process.
