Silvus Maritime Testing

So, we had a free Friday following IMDEX, access to a boat, a Peli-case full of Silvus equipment, and some willing partners from Miltrade, our key partner in Singapore! Why not do some basic testing in the harbor? With some sector antennas borrowed from our friends at Broadcast Solutions, and a little ingenuity, we achieved impressive results in a challenging RF environment.

Basic setup: SC4480 on the boat with 5dBi dual polarized omni antennas, approx. 3m above sea-level. SC4240 dismount kit on boat with Silvus Obscura camera. SC4480 with 14dBi sector on 2 ports and 9dBi panel antenna on 2 ports (Less than optimal but what we had access to on short notice.) and an SC4240 on shore.

Quite a few large ships along the path, edge of an island in the first fresnel zone, and still had full HD video/voice/GPS and minimum of 14dBi SNR, with plenty of throughput and range left when we ran into the end of the road, before the patrol boats would have turned us around at about 10.5km. Thinking we could have gotten close to 20km, especially had we had the right antennas on the shore.

The maritime market is one that Silvus is perfectly aligned with, and an area we are seeing considerable growth in. From the effectiveness our waveform and radios exhibit in penetration into the depths of vessels by boarding teams, to our ability to operate in the challenging physical and RF environments that maritime presents, our new E Series IP68 radios are quickly becoming the radio of choice in this arena.
