Silver Linings
Whether you've managed to maintain your employment, are currently job searching (or something in between) this has been an incredibly bumpy year for most of us.
Silver linings. For me it's been a lot more kiddo hugs, a lot less commute time. Being present for my dad as he fights cancer. Learning to support myself, partner and kids, friends, family and my team at work through a string of seasons none of us have ever experienced before.
For The Mom Project (the company I work for) it's been seeing companies rise to the occasion with a shift to remote work and radical respect for working parents. It's been seeing moms get the credit they deserve as the backbone of America and realization that all levels of our infrastructure must improve significantly to support them or the economy and DNA of society will fray irreparably.
It may not feel like the progress is swift enough to meet us at this critical state of emergency, but trust this shift is an inflection point of significance. The workforce and its understanding of working parents is changed forever, and each of us has contributed to this. This is our collective silver lining. Let's push for more solutions together.
What have you sussed out of this year? Let's connect the silver linings from moms across the country and stitch together a fabric of our sheer will to survive and thrive. Your experience matters.
Embracing uncertainty while summoning strength. It's what we (moms) do.

4 年I love this--and I think keeping perspective on the silver linings is the only way we can get through this. As awful as elearning can be, I've LOVED the little glimpses into A's school. Seeing her hand shoot up and engage with her teachers makes me really happy. I also love the extra little snippets of time we get in the middle of the day with her.

4 年Thanks Colleen for asking us to focus on the silver linings. My silver linings are more time at home than ever with my children and no commute which gives me time to exercise again.
Truly seeing you can live with less is more. Being a mom, teacher, planner, and care giver showed me anything is possible but also being able to be together more with no commute, less activities to really focus on what truly matters. I won't get this time back and I don't regret it. Thankful we are safe and well.
