Silver lining? There's always one!
Those who are following CMR on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+) will know that things took a big hit in early October last year. An old injury resurfaced and lead to an operation in November, really knocking the wind out the sails.
At the time it really felt like it was the end of the world. No more gaining experience to put towards the Vendée, no more sailing in Asia, no Sydney Hobart, the list goes on! To be honest, it was very difficult to keep the head up and find that silver lining sitting dormant away from the sea and sports.
The first glint of silver came from a mentor. Why not consider starting a business? It took many drafts and changes before settling on an idea that everyone liked and thought had legs! It's hopefully going to mean that a legacy will be left behind post Vendée instead of simply having bragging rights!
The lining itself has come completely unexpectedly through chance and simply being in the right place at the right time! The new job has opened up an incredible opportunity to continue down the solo ocean racing path!
The best thing, it's unlikely that these doors would have opened up if I haven't done my knee in! So always, even if you think the world has come crashing down, there'll be silver lining if you keep looking!
