No Silver Bullet for GDPR
It's finally come, the day that the new General Data Protection Regulation begins is almost here. There's been so much talk, so much text and so much confusion. It all ends now...right?
The answer to that question is "it depends". Organisations across Ireland, Europe and beyond are at different stages of their acceptance of GDPR. Some have embraced the need for changes, some have ignored the need for changes and most are somewhere in between.
As a company, we at Glantus have prepared ourselves early and tied everything that we've done to support our GDPR compliance into our pending ISO 27001 certification. This has allowed us to double down our efforts to maximise the results.
We've also used technology to help, mostly our own. Our Transform product has been instrumental in saving us time in the classification of data across all of our IT systems, while also allowing us to map the individuals and customers within our systems and automate our data retention policies.
Sounds simple and it is, or at least it should be - if your organisation is feeling pain around addressing their GDPR compliance, contact us at Glantus - we can help.
Helen Dixon (Irish Data Protection Commission) has been clear on her priorities once the enforcement starts (on May 25th 2018). She has highlighted that "it's critical for organisations to get the handling of requests for Data Access right..failure to do so will lead Data Protection (Supervisory) Authorities quickest to YOUR door".
So, if you or your organisation are worried..that makes sense. There is probably a bit of work to be done, the key is to start now so that you can show that you're being proactive in addressing the new requirements, just like these two in the video below.
Whatever comes on May 25th, one thing is certain - the Earth will still revolve. Once it does, we at Glantus will be speaking at the GDPR Summit in the RDS on May 30th - would be nice to see you there!
