That car above? It's real. And it represents a real police department in a real town, one on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA. Why is it named Sandwich? It is named for the seaport of Sandwich, Kent, England -- I'm guessing back then the word sandwich had a totally different meaning.
But the car's picture spurred me to think about other ways cars make us laugh. License plates!
Since I am one of those who also has a license plate that I created, I am always amused at the ones I see on the highway or in parking lots. I love the creativity so often shown, and I hope you do, too!
If you have a picture of one, feel free to send it along to me. I'd love to showcase it in another Silly Saturday post.
So here are a few of the many thousands of the fun and clever license plates around the country. And be sure to look at the car company's name as well; sometimes that figures into the fun here.
The Legend of Zelda is apparently a video game -- who knew?
One I KNOW everyone will love!
Last but not least -- at least for me -- is the one on my car!
Which one is YOUR favorite today?

Do the associates in your company look and sound as smart as they are? They would if they could take one of my Brush Up on Your Skills workshops right where they work. If your company hires outside experts to teach any topic to its associates, please share my posts and website with your Human Resources or Training Manager.
Are you a member of an association or other group that is looking for a speaker for one of its meetings? There are a lot of communication-based topics that could be perfect for a light-hearted and interesting presentation.
I offer free generic Brush Up on Your Skills workbooks in a pdf format in American grammar, business writing, and interpersonal skills. They show what I teach in my three-hour corporate classes.
Want one? Let me know which one you want -- Grammar, Business Writing, or Interpersonal Skills -- and please send me your e-mail address.

8 年These are fun, Susan. Some folks are very creative with their plates. I've seen several around our area but none come to mind at the moment.

8 年I love these ?? Number plates. They are ??????.
So, you've given us license to play around today... Riffing off yours, Susan Rooks (The Grammar Goddess), I can imagine a plate on a military base: DECIM 8 (or more phonetically, DESIM 8). Or, there's the dancer with a plate WORK IT. Carpenter with HAMMER. Sleep specialist physician Dr SNOOZE. Or, above my desk today, BAK 2 WERK.
