Columbus startup Triple Whale announced last week it has raised $27.7 million in an extended Series A funding round. The round was led by Elephant VC and is the company’s first announced funding round since it was founded in May 2021. Techstars is returning to Detroit! It’s been two years since the startup accelerator halted its operations in Detroit, but now Techstars is returning to the Motor City with an accelerator led by tech and VC veteran Monica Wheat. The program will be powered by JP Morgan and is designed to provide equitable access, funding, and support for entrepreneurs who are Black, Hispanic and Latino, Indigenous American, and/or Pacific Islander who represent the diversity of our nation. The accelerator kicks off in September — deadline to apply is May 11th, 2022. (Crain’s Detroit)
On the heels of Stack Construction Technologies’ new $17 million funding round, the Cincy startup announced it acquired two companies: Bid Retriever and K-Ops, based in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Montreal, respectively. Stack Construction Technologies (a top startup to watch in 2022) offers web-based construction takeoff and estimating software for contractors, and these new partnerships will help Stack broaden its reach. Wayne State University and Global Detroit are launching a Global Entrepreneur-in-Residence (Global EIR). This partnership is aimed at helping immigrant and international entrepreneurs launch high-growth startups in Southeast Michigan. Global EIR places foreign-born startup founders at universities to teach and mentor. The founders, in turn, become eligible for an H-1B visa, enabling them to launch and grow their companies in metro Detroit, attracting and keeping talent in Michigan. (Wayne State University)
