I recently spoke to a restaurant owner who shared a story that mirrors the experiences of many in the industry. The owner said, "I'm tired. I don't want to do this anymore - owning a restaurant. I absolutely hate what has happened to the restaurant industry since COVID... but I'm not sure what to do considering increasing costs and more and more government intervention. What is a restaurant owner to do? Do I keep at it? Should I sell? It's killing my sense of well-being. I'm miserable and scared." This sentiment resonates deeply with countless restaurant owners today. They are caught in a state of limbo, unable to make a change, close their doors, or recommit to turning the situation around and reinventing as necessary.
The pandemic has reshaped the restaurant landscape, imposing a new reality on owners who once thrived in the vibrant, bustling environment of pre-COVID days. The joy of creating memorable dining experiences has been overshadowed by the relentless stress of navigating ever-changing regulations and safety protocols. Months of forced closures or limited operations drained financial reserves and morale. Takeout and delivery services provided a lifeline but were insufficient to cover mounting expenses.

Everyone wants to be seen and heard, no matter the position we hold in business. If your employees are sticking around, ask them why.
