??? The Silent Killer of Digital Projects: Identifying and Overcoming Resistance

In every digital transformation journey, a familiar challenge arises: resistance. Rather than challenging the status quo directly, we should invite people to reflect on new and improved methods of operation.

Change is inevitable.

And here is what I have learned about it.

Understanding Resistance

Resistance to change is a natural human response, coming from fear and uncertainty. In digital projects, this resistance can show up as doubt about new technologies, hesitation to try new ways of working, or even clear refusal to go along with change initiatives.

Personal Insights on Overcoming Resistance

1// Transparent Communication: Begin by openly discussing the reasons behind the digital transformation, focusing on the benefits for the team and the organization. Transparency builds trust and dismantles fear.

2// Inclusive Planning: Involve team members in the planning process. This inclusion fosters a sense of ownership and commitment to the project's success.

3// Focused Training and Support: Offer comprehensive training and ongoing support to ease the transition. Understanding dispels fear, and competency builds confidence.

4// Celebrating Small Wins: Recognize and celebrate milestones, no matter how small. This recognition boosts morale and demonstrates the positive impact of the changes.

5// Leadership by Example: As a leader, embrace the changes wholeheartedly. Your enthusiasm and commitment can inspire your team to follow suit.

And here is a Jeff Bezos quote for those of you tired of facing resistance

If you are going to do anything new or innovative, you have to be willing to be misunderstood. And if you can't tolerate that, then for God's sake, don't do anything new or innovative.

This Week's Action Steps

Reflect on your transformative initiatives and identify where resistance might be taking root. Implement one of the above strategies to address and mitigate this resistance, starting with an open team discussion about the upcoming changes.

Great post Alan Campos. Resistance to change its a very human thing and will happen in every transformation project. Listening to sceptics is a great way to understand the pain points of this change. Working with them together will help tremendously.
