The silent disrupter of your focus and flow

This happens on a daily basis but most people aren't even aware that it's happening and how it's truly affecting them.

Sometimes, it's blatantly obvious but it mostly goes unnoticed.

Let's take an obvious recent example.

Even if you've only got a glimpse from the sidelines about what's been happening in London and across the UK in the last few days, you're bound to have been affected.

The recent events of racism, violence, dumping rubbish over the place and trashing properties are hideous.

Everyone gets impacted. Just in different ways and to varying degrees.

But these topics are NOT the focus of this article.

Instead, I am shining a light on how (obvious and not-so-obvious) sources of energy are impacting you and how to negate their impact.

WHY?

A lot of negative energy is spreading with the speed of light and penetrating deep into our core. It's a daily occurrence.

Thunder. Negative energy

And if like me, you're someone who is more sensitive to other people's energy, the effect on you is greater. You're being impacted more deeply.

You may not always be able to put your finger on it and know that's what's happening, but it is still happening.

It doesn't have to be such extreme events for you to be affected.

Especially, if you share traits of a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP).


THREE COMMON EXAMPLES OF PICKING UP NEGATIVE ENERGY:

1. Media

Merely reading a headline, skimming through your social media feed or reading even a part of a social media post.

2. Picking someone else's vibes.

A personal recent story. On Sunday, I was chilling out on the sofa when my husband sat near me. I instantly felt his nervousness ahead of the football match.

Just like that in a split second, his negative energy transferred to me.

That nervous energy made me devour a packet of crisps, a handful of nuts and a ramekin full of ice cream! (Yeah, not feeling proud.)

(Yes, the nuts were healthy but all three in the space of an hour after a delicious dinner was too much of a calorific intake.

While cheering on for England to win, I wasn't that invested in the game or its result. In fact, I always thought that coming second is an amazing achievement.

I'm digressing... See how easy it is to shift your focus!? ;-))

3. Sensing the collective negative energy.

Have you ever been in a room or even on a video conference with people and all of a sudden you felt your body tense up?

It usually happens to my shoulder/neck area.

These just three examples of how we pick up negative energy from external sources and there are plenty more. Some more obvious than others.


WHAT CAN YOU DO TO INTERRUPT AND REVERSE THE EFFECTS OF THIS NEGATIVE ENERGY?

1. Notice what's affecting you

As a first step, my recommendation is to start paying closer attention to what are the sources of energy that:

  • Scatter your attention
  • Sap your energy
  • Shatter your productivity
  • Slow down your progress

Given that I've dedicated several years to learning about how to manage my energy more effectively and be at my best, this is only something I started to seriously take notice of in the last couple of years.

2. Explore different techniques and implement those that best suit your circumstances

The great news is that there are a lot of ways that help you negate the damaging effects of negative energy.
