SILENT ACHIEVERS

My people, good afternoon and how are you enjoying the holidays? We are still in a celebration mood, so once again, #MerryChristmas and a #HappyNewYear in advance!

Some people make so much noise about everything they do, especially their achievements. Others choose to be silent about theirs. Most times, you discover that those who are usually silent achieve more than those who make noise about everything they do.

I am one of those who choose to be silent all the time but giving thanks to God Almighty for without Him, we can do nothing…

Once again, to the glory of God, I am happy that this year is ending on a fantastic note. Apart from the impacts we are celebrating at the Ugwumba Leadership Center , God has also used me to bring development to several communities in Imo State.

With the support of my boss, His Excellency, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu and the Imo State Coordinator of the European Union Niger Delta Support Program Component 4, Dr. Evans C.P. Ohaji , I attracted a number of community projects for my people in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State.

I have argued severally in both private and public forums that the problem with most people we have in Government across the country is that they do not understand the purpose of Government. It is unfortunate that over 80% of people occupying Government positions, both appointive and elective positions are not aware that the primary purpose of Government is development. That is why, most times, they prioritize their selfish interests above those of their immediate communities or the nation at large.

I do not in any way mean that I am the best but the truth is that in the little positions I was privileged to occupy in Government in the past, I can always point at tangible things I achieved while they lasted.

The account I am going to render to you now happened when I was the Special Assistant in charge of job creation in Imo State, when His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was Governor.

As the Chief of Staff, Imo State Government of Nigeria then, my boss, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu assigned me to supervise the affairs of the EU Niger Delta Support Program (NDSP 4) in Imo State, a few years after they had commenced operations.

At this juncture, I would like to appreciate the European Union in Nigeria for implementing over 200 micro projects under its NDSP4 in selected communities and LGAs in the three zones of Imo State. Unfortunately, Ohaji/Egbema LGA, which is my constituency was not captured in the list of benefiting LGAs but as a development activist, I had to turn things around diplomatically, as soon as I started my new assignment with them without organizing any protests or involving militant youths to attack them.

Not only that, I also made it possible for the EU NDSP4 and the FEDERAL MINISTRY OF FINANCE, BUDGET & NATIONAL PLANNING NIGERIA to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the Imo State Government, which had lingered for almost two years since the project commenced.

Through that little assignment, I attracted various projects for 5 communities in Ohaji/Egbema LGA as follows:

a) Health Center Project at Umuokanne Community in Ohaji;

b) Health Center Project at Mgbuisi Community in Ohaji;

c) Water Project at Obiakpu Community in Egbema;

d) Civic Center Project at Umuorji Community in Egbema; and

e) Civic Center Project at Opuoma Community in Egbema.

To the glory of God, I am glad to announce that these projects were completed this year and have been handed over to their benefiting communities, several months ago, thereby adding up to other projects which I attracted for my community, Umuokanne and others.

Even though, I was the one that attracted them, they would not have been possible without the support of my boss, His Excellency, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu and Dr. Evans C.P. Ohaji , who was the State Coordinator of the EU NDSP4 then. So, I would like to use this opportunity to appreciate them once again, for their kind understanding and cooperation while those projects lasted.
