Early this week we returned to the L’Abbaye aux Dames de Saintes (as I said we would). It featured lovely arches with carvings over the front door, but the stone is pretty damaged and weathered, which was heartbreaking to see.

I doubt you can make them out, but in the first arch above the door are two angels on either side of a “hand of God” image. I adore hand-of-God images! (I admit that term reminds me of the old TV show “Laugh-In,” when Rowan & Martin would irreverently bestow a “Flying Fickle Finger of Fate” award. “Fate” = “hand of God.”)
