Signs you're a good writer (this might surprise you)

Signs you're a good writer (this might surprise you)

When I was in my twenties, I had this boyfriend called Clifford*.

We were living in separate cities at the time, and he used to write me letters, several times a week.

I looked forward to getting Clifford’s love letters...but they were full of spelling mistakes.

And (I’m not proud to admit this), but as an English student, that kind of made me cringe a bit.

I was recounting this story to a group of friends, when my friend Matt tore a strip off me.

And quite rightly so.

I shouldn’t be shaming people for not being able to spell.

Didn’t I struggle with maths?

How would I feel if someone shamed me about that?

And, since that day, I’ve become super aware of how I talk about writing.

Chatting to friends/clients in more depth, I now realise how many people feel sensitive about their writing.

  • Some were told they weren’t very good at writing at school and haven’t been able to shake off that limiting belief (even though they’re actually pretty good)
  • Others were diagnosed with a learning difficulty like dyslexia (or suspect they may have it)
  • Others feel they are ok at writing at school, but then they got pulled up by some smart arse who corrected their punctuation and/or grammar...and it’s knocked their confidence.

Then there’s those for whom English is their second language. Which means they sometimes worry about getting things wrong (even though they’re doing brilliantly).

So when I was writing the introduction to the workbook for the Copy Fix masterclass I’m running later this week, I included this paragraph:

Good writing is not about using fancy big words and perfect grammar/communication.

It’s about being able to communicate your ideas in an accessible and engaging way.

And consistency is everything.

Just doing the same things, the same way - every single time - can make a HUGE difference to the quality of your copy.

Some of the best writers I know don’t have perfect spelling, punctuation and grammar. But they write from the heart...which is what makes their writing so engaging.

I also know some seriously BORING writers who have perfect spelling, punctuation and grammar.

But understanding a bit more about how to use apostrophes, where to put a comma and/or a hyphen can certainly help you feel more confident.

Which is why I decided to include some basic grammar, punctuation and spelling in my Copy Fix masterclass. Alongside the fancy tricks to make your writing more stylish. And templates you can use to write ‘about’ pages and sales pages - without overthinking it for a week.

There are two ways to get on board.

  1. You can either buy the standalone class for £42.
  2. You can upgrade to the Premium version of my Build Your Online Audience programme for just £200 (or swap your subscription to £66 a month)

As a premium member of my Build Your Online Audience programme, you get access to my entire library of masterclasses - including classes on launching your own online course, online masterclass, playbook/Ebook (worth £540 alone). PLUS a whole host of other courses including my Instagram Success Academy, Getting Started With Pinterest, and Youtube. The total value of these resources is around £3k, which could make it a bit of a no brainer for you to upgrade.

Just to put that into perspective…

  • You can buy the standalone class for £42
  • Or you can get started with Premium membership for as little as £66 a month...and get TONS of extra content.

Any questions, drop me a DM. I know it’s a big decision to invest in online training and nothing is too silly to ask - honest!

*Some names have been changed to protect the innocent.
