The year is now well and truly underway, and developments in medical imaging are picking up speed. In February, Signify Research’s Premium Insights covered a range of announcements from the industry, and provided in-depth analysis of data collected over the course of 2023.
One of the most exciting stories covered in February was the first Category I CPT code granted for an AI solution in medical imaging . Revenue and reimbursement are hot topics in medical imaging AI, and the Category I code for FFR-CT analysis is a major milestone for the industry. We consider the impact of this significant achievement for HeartFlow, Inc , and what lessons can be learned for vendors looking to replicate its success.
AI revenue is also an important theme in another Insight , which examines collaborations between Ultromics and 辉瑞 , and Quibim and Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany . These partnerships might suggest an alternate path for AI vendors that are struggling to generate revenue and access funding in the increasingly competitive investment landscape.
LUMA Vision is certainly not struggling for investment, with the modality vendor recently announcing $22 million in new financing for the company, to gain FDA clearance, prepare for US commercialisation and develop the next generations of its VERAFEYE platform. While this is a considerable war chest, our Insight considers if it will be enough for the company to achieve its goals.
In another recently announced partnership, Lunit Cancer Screening will collaborate with 三星电子 to integrate its AI technology into Samsung’s premium X-ray devices. This deal is another strong move for Lunit, coming hot on the heels of its recent acquisition of Volpara Health , however, our Insight discussing the partnership considers whether or not will it be a game-changer for Samsung in the X-ray market.
Taking a step back to consider the bigger picture, we dig into the full year financial reports from the big names in the industry. We examine how GE医疗 , 飞利浦 , 西门子 , and other major players fared over the course of 2023, and what these results suggest about the key considerations in the industry for the next 12 months.
Another Insight with a broader scope analyses the results from Signify Research’s Vendor Sentiment Index in 2023. This quarterly survey tracked the confidence levels of both AI independent software vendors and imaging IT vendors over the year, shedding light on how the two groups have perceived the changing AI landscape.
b-rayZ is an AI vendor with cause for optimism, having recently received the CE mark for its DANAI technology, which aims to improve breast cancer detection, density assessment and quality-controlled breast positioning. Our Insight examines the company’s choice to focus on the European market first, rather than the US, and if its bold claims about the technology can be realised.
Finally, we turn our attention to 锐珂医疗 ’s new DRX-Excel Plus X-ray system, which combines fluoroscopy and general radiology in one compact unit, and includes several new features aimed at simplifying workflows, enhancing productivity, and limiting radiation dose. Our Insight considers the significant challenges in the market for single modality X-ray vendors, and if this device can help the company turn the page on its recent turmoil.
