The use of generative AI in healthcare is accelerating very quickly. The addition of patient record sharing summarisation, identification of missing prior authorisation and care plan summarisation all represent sensible use cases for the vendor to focus on, and make sense give then vendor's pedigree. The Premium Insight questions how beneficial these tools will be to customers, as well as how beneficial they will be to athenahealth.
Another of the month’s Premium Insights addressed one of the questions at the forefront of the mind of many considering the generative AI; the debate between proprietary and open source foundation models. These questions were pertinent for French vendor Nabla , which has recently raised $24m in Series B funding, and is transitioning from a proprietary model from OpenAI to open source alternatives such as those from the likes of Meta and Mistral AI . The Premium Insight focusing on this transition explains the rationale for such a move, as well as highlighting some of the trade-offs being made and the challenges the vendor might face in achieving commercial success.
