Significant, Long-term Personal Change. The Two Necessary Steps, With A Story.

Significant, Long-term Personal Change. The Two Necessary Steps, With A Story.

Most efforts at personal change fail. The result? Well, other than the resulting life and person that aren't improved... that person might lose self-confidence, self-esteem and belief in personal change. As such, they are less likely to try and affect personal change in the future.

What's more, other people that see the failed attempt at personal change are less likely to have confidence in two things: the person who failed and the efficacy of personal change itself.

There are many naysayers of personal change. But their arguments are fallacious. The fact is, we have all changed significantly in our lives. From ages 5 to 10 to 20. Problem is by, by age 35 (much sooner for most), we are pretty set in our core beliefs, behaviors and skills.

But the fact that most personal development efforts fail is not proof of a causal relationship or efficacy. It's only proof that most people's efforts fail.

Most efforts fail for one reason: we assume that awareness and desire for personal change equals personal change. If the change we desire is significant and lasting, awareness and desire are probably never sufficient to affect change.

This video and article explain why most efforts at personal development or personal change fail. Because most people never even complete the first necessary step, while far fewer ever affect the second step...

...that is, unless they have a significant trauma in their lives. Then they "might" affect the second step. I emphasize "might."

Watch the video to see what the two steps are, including a personal story of how I quit smoking at age 21 (or 22) and it was among the easiest things I've ever done. From a single moment at that age, I never again had the slightest urge or desire for a cigarette. In fact, the idea was as repulsive and disgusting as virtually any imaginable mindset or behavior could possibly be.

What does this have to do with you? After all, maybe you don't smoke, right?

Well... we all have mindsets and behaviors we want to change. No human being is perfect in their mindsets and behavior-sets. This technique is what you can, and must, use to affect significant, lasting change in any mindset or behavior-set.
