Major Metros across South Africa are expected to face above-inflation increases in municipal tariffs. On 1 July 2024, eThekwini Municipality is expected to face the sharpest increases in these tariffs. The municipality’s residents will see a rise in property rates, electricity, water, sanitation, refuse removal and more.
The proposed tariff increases still need to go through a number of consultation processes before being finalised. Before these are implemented in the various councils, a draft of these rates will be made available to the public in order to encourage participation and comments from residents.
