A Sign of the Times

A Sign of the Times

This month marks my 10th anniversary at Docusign and I’m celebrating it. Because it’s a major milestone in my professional journey.

Reflecting on the past decade, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities and growth that have shaped my experience. When I joined Docusign, I was drawn to the mission of transforming how business gets done by simplifying the way agreements are prepared, signed, and managed. I had been a user as a sales leader at Amazon and knew it was something special in terms of both efficiency and environmental sustainability.?

Little did I know the profound impact that this organization would have as the world changed. It’s an ongoing evolution: from automation to connecting the world through agreements, to helping companies perform life-changing work through the pandemic, to the innovations around AI and connected, community-based consumer experiences happening today.??

“Docusign It”

When I first started, I’d explain to people that I work for “a small startup downtown.” I beamed with pride and prepared to explain. Most complied.?

Fast forward 10 years, I turned on Netflix and heard realtors on reality TV telling their clients to “Docusign it”. Most complied. ??

During my tenure at Docusign, I’ve witnessed firsthand the company’s remarkable evolution to becoming a verb:

  • From about $300 million to nearly $3 billion in ARR
  • From several hundred to over 1.4 million customers
  • From 3 offices to 15 globally
  • From pioneering the e-signature space, to having tens of billions of signatures and launching a whole new category… again;?
  • 10 acquisitions, dozens of product launches, countless innovative projects, several new ERGs and other collaborations with incredibly talented colleagues

Every milestone is a testament to Docusign’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and customer success; every moment a part of my personal and career story.?

The beauty of a career jungle gym?

As I look back, I think about the career jungle gym I’ve been on, climbing and discovering skills and roles across Sales, Ops & Enablement, Product, Engineering, and Growth.?

I’ve gained experience in everything from developing a new Commercial sales org to in depth IPO and M&A activities, implementing new systems and tools; from co-innovating new solutions with customers to informing strategic planning and COVID response.?

No matter what role I took on in my own career, my biggest achievement (and primary measure of success) has been supporting so many great talents in their careers. After all, a (career) ladder is intended for one person alone; a (career) jungle gym is for all of us to explore together.?I have the honor of working with so many talented individuals every. Single. Day.

The jungle gym has also shaped my own career. As I? played different roles, I trusted those who asked me to build, until I myself understood my strength as a builder.

When I was asked to step into my current role heading up Customer Innovation, I took the opportunity to redefine and launch the Docusign Community, develop global Customer Engagement Programs, and lead the design and growth of our new Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) Category. It’s another important company milestone. It’s also another personal career moment bringing together the skills and experience I’ve gained with a vision around developing a highly capable team, collaborating with customers, and establishing a Community both inside and outside of the company. Community has always been personally close to my heart as a Lebanese-American.

My work continues

Amidst the ebb and flow of wins, challenges, skeptics, obstacles, and change, I’ve learned the power of remaining calm, confident, and reassured in self – just like the rocky coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, where waves crash, yet the rocks stand firm and steadfast.?

I draw inspiration from this. In the face of many uncertainties over the years, I have aimed to have the strength of a rock – unwavering. And as I continue to expand, that will continue to be my guiding principle.?

As the landscape continues to shift in the next 10 years, I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. I am confident that Docusign will continue to redefine the way business is conducted and unlock new possibilities for our customers, partners, and end users around the world.?

I’m also excited about what’s to come in my own journey. The world remains dynamic as ever. As a leader, I am committed to cultivate collective efforts towards building a more inclusive and equitable ecosystem (more to come on this). In parallel, I’m also looking forward to leveraging my experience to help other businesses through advisement with Alliance of Angels.

For everyone who has been and is a part of this journey with me – colleagues, mentors, business partners, customers, and friends – I am sincerely grateful.

Amazing! Congrats on 10 years!

10 yrs, amazing! Proud of you. But, if you had to name one colleague that’s had the biggest impact, most enjoyable to work with, and just overall good person - who would you say? They also had to be here the entire 10 years with you, AND, still at DS today, or they aren’t eligible.
