Over 150 years ago, Freud was looking into the complex dynamics of male-female relationships and finally came upon what we now reffer to as the ”Madonna/whore complex”.
Don't worry, I'm not gonna bog you down with some confusing psycho mumbo jumbo.
I'll spell it out in plain English.
They Madonna/Whore complex explained how some men could not be sexually attracted to a woman he loved. And, at the same time he could not love a woman he was sexually attracted to.
The man in question would wind up marrying his ideal woman, whom he held to high standards...but he wouldn't take her to bed and plough her brains out even after overdosing on viagra.
Instead, he could only ”dance the bedroom cha-cha” with a “fallen” woman. A whore, in his eyes. A common prostitute, too far corrupted for his heart to yearn for.
Now, This only applied to mysogynistic men who grew up with a cold mother or suffered trauma as kids from females...
In his own words...
"Where such men love they have no desire and where they desire they cannot love."
Now, here's the interesting part.
Once you strip the sexual subtext from the whole concept, you'll notice how the same thing is being done by marketers and biz owners.
Maybe it's due to the whole “proffesional corporate” bullshit floating around the biz world, but most of these guys think their customers are the Madonnas, and everyone else's customers are whores.
They've somehow convinced themselves their customers are beyond raw, targeted and brutally effective salesmanship.
Heck, they're so convinced about how different their customers are, it wouldn't be a shock to see them referring to them as some “incorruptibly pure” beings of purity ( corny, I know ).
To them, they common buying triggers proven time and again, such as:
- scarcity
- curiosity
- the take away
Won't work to their customers/ lists because they think “they've trancended such lowly thinking”.
Bullshit.
At the end of the day, we're all human!
We all go home at the end of the day, take a shit, and go to bed.
And that includes their customers too. It doesn't matter how “upper class” someone is, The same basic appeals that've worked for decades will still work now.
We're all “Whores” in the world of consumer psychology.
The Maddonas don't exist
