The Sight of the Seen

When we create, we often frame the subject in a particular way; that is, what we see as Creators and what we choose to show our viewers. The hidden, the revealed, the seen, the unseen, the tangible and the intangible.

The seen and unseen therefore determine the reception and perception of a work. Whether the content is real or abstract, empirical or imaginative, all the power rests solely with the Creator - to show, to cover, to reveal, to hide, to add and to subtract.

The French Artist Edgar Degas once said, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

As Creators what we see need not be what we make as art. We could frame, compose and curate our works in a way to most effectively fit our goal.

We as Creators may take leaps of faith and be a bit adventurous in the conceptual and compositional frameworks to gauge reactions and responses as part of our exploration. At times, these can include contextual liberties or voices of communities. Here, not only what we frame becomes important but also how we frame.

On a conceptual and experiential realm, the Creator frames the intangible without any limitation.

The viewers may see what the Creator might have seen or not seen; thus creating a new seen. It can therefore be said that, what a Creator sees is just the beginning, paving the way to many more new ‘seens’.
