Hot Topic: Website SEO in Real Estate

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a long-term marketing strategy to improve your website and increase its visibility in organic search. SEO best practices generally include a few different approaches.

  1. On-page SEO is the most common and well understood. This includes your URL, keywords, title tags, meta descriptions and – most importantly – compelling content that contains all those elements.
  2. Off-page SEO includes things like online reviews or backlinks.
  3. There’s also local SEO like maintaining a Google Business Profile and creating hyperlocal content for your particular market.
  4. And finally there’s technical SEO – this is the foundation of a high-performing website like fast-page speeds, mobile friendliness and site structure. The good news is that if you have an industry-specific real estate website (hint, hint) your SEO strategy can be much easier to put into practice.

A good SEO strategy is critical for real estate agents to bring qualified organic traffic to their website. More qualified traffic > more leads > more deals. In contrast to pay-per-click (PPC) advertising strategies, generating leads organically is sometimes viewed as “leads you don’t have to pay for.” That can be true, but there is an investment of time upfront to ensure you have your SEO building blocks in place. And, you have to consistently create content that will rank organically. Sometimes, real estate agents outsource this to third parties which comes with a cost as well. However, putting the work into your site now – and/or partnering with a third-party SEO strategist – will have a compounding effect into the future, making your website a true lead gen engine.
