Siemens Energy – The next stage of our journey
Thorbj?rn Fors
Group Senior Vice President of Siemens Energy and Managing Director Asia Pacific
April 1 was an exceptional day. The very first day for us as a Siemens Energy. I'm so excited to begin this journey with all my colleagues.
In the past few weeks, we’ve already seen the power of working together in our collective response to the global corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic. This unprecedented situation is affecting our families, our businesses, our communities, and our way of life. First and foremost, our hearts go out to anyone who's been impacted by the virus. Our top two priorities remain to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our employees and providing business continuity for our customers. I want to thank all of teams for their continued dedication during this time, particularly our personnel in the field and production who are working at or on behalf of customer sites to literally “keep the lights on.” I know they are keeping operations running under very challenging conditions and am incredibly grateful for their commitment.
Now we’re navigating a new journey - And as we start on this next phase, I wanted to share what inspires me. Energy is in my DNA. Siemens Energy is continuing to make a difference to society because we provide the world with sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy. In oil and gas, this is particularly true. The energy transition cannot happen overnight – the world still needs transition fuels such as natural gas to provide an abundant, inexpensive, and relatively clean energy backbone. At the same time, we also must work on technologies and business models that systematically help companies and communities reduce CO2 emissions at their facilities.
Innovation is what excites, inspires, and motivates me. In fact, innovation is at the core of what defines me. Not only in terms of technology – but also in how I approach everything I do. How can we make something better? What lessons can we learn from each other, other companies and from other industries? These are the types of problems I like solving, and the kinds of problems that will require brainpower, curiosity, and experiences
Why we are here - Bringing our products, solutions, and services businesses together into one Oil & Gas Division offers us many of advantages. We can offer our customers a full value chain in the upstream, midstream, downstream, and other industrial segments. This value chain includes mission-critical rotating equipment, maintained with value-adding original equipment manufacturing services -optimized with electrification, automation and digitalization solutions – and all enabled by industry-leading technologies and capabilities.
We will continue to put our customers at the core, showing them that we genuinely care and are committed. This is always important, but particularly so now when business continuity is a critical priority. This is how I see long-term relationships and loyalty from our customers.
What happens next - In the near term, our journey will continue to be challenging. The duration of and full impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with a global oil glut, are still unknown. These are macro factors beyond our control. The steps we can take are actions to mitigate their impact as much as possible, which we already are doing. We also need to remain focused on the following:
- Continue putting safety first: We all know that in times of stress and crisis, it’s easy to get distracted and lose focus. Let’s take extra time and care for ourselves and watch out for each other. We want everyone to stay healthy and safe, whether we’re working remotely or in the field.
- We treat each other with respect and honesty: Lately, I’ve noticed more people taking the time to ask each other how they are doing, how their families are doing, how their work is, or is not impacted by our current situation. These basic acts of kindness are things we should remember to do even when we aren’t in times of crisis.
- Work with a strong degree of collaboration: We are nearly 17,500 talented employees in our Division around the world. We are one team that focuses on the common interest of delivering success to Siemens Energy, to our customers, and that focuses on delivering success for each other.
We are stronger together. Adversity often creates opportunities to be bold and try new things. Our knowledge, passion and people are key to making our business successful. To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, it starts with the mindset of imaging the impossible and removing the improbable.
I’m looking forward to being part of writing a new chapter in our company’s history at Siemens Energy. We have the knowledge, the will, and the perseverance to navigate this new path together.
Sincerely
Thorbj?rn Fors
