Siemens Energy – built to drive the energy transformation
Hosted by Siemens AG, Siemens Energy today gave analysts, investors and other interested parties detailed answers to the questions “Who are we?” Where do we compete? Why are we the right investment?” at the company’s first virtual Capital Market Day. It became clear that Siemens Energy is on the right track, and we have every reason to be confident. My heartfelt thanks to all of you who created and organized this event.
We have strong arguments why Siemens Energy is an outstanding company.
So, who are we?
To begin with, we are a company with 91,000 great, passionate colleagues around the world, united by one goal: “We energize society by supporting our customers in transitioning to a more sustainable world, based on our innovative technologies and our ability to turn ideas into reality.” We have two strong segments: Gas and Power and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE). Some numbers for Siemens Energy? Presence in more than 90 countries; technologies on which one-sixth of the world’s power generation is based; a portfolio that is already more than 50 percent geared toward decarbonization; revenue of €28.8 billion in fiscal 2019; and an order backlog worth €82 billion as of June 30, 2020.
Where do we compete?
Siemens Energy is gaining its independence at a time when energy systems worldwide are fundamentally changing:
- Around 850 million people currently live on our planet without access to electricity. As a global community, we have to intensify our efforts to remedy this.
- Studies predict that the global demand for electricity will soar by more than 50 percent by 2040 – because growing numbers of people will have access; because the electrification of entire industries is accelerating; and because a new group of “users” like data centers and e-mobility is rapidly increasing.
- Worldwide commitment to fight climate change has never been higher. And we are seeing energy transitions happen across the globe.
The great challenge for societies and companies alike is to meet the growing demand for energy, to enable social progress and at the same time to protect the climate – and accomplish all of this in an economically viable and sensible way. This requires that we continuously expand our reliance on renewables, by bringing new technologies like carbon-free or carbon-neutral hydrogen and power-to-X to market maturity – but also that we find interim solutions in the short-term.
Why interim solutions? Because it isn’t possible to convert the entire global energy system from conventional to renewables overnight. The transformation of energy markets begins at different points in time and proceeds at different paces depending on each country’s respective situation. Today, Siemens Energy holds leading positions in the markets we serve. But as our environment changes, we need to change with it. We need to accelerate our own transformation so we can play an active role in shaping tomorrow’s energy world – and remain a reliable and trusted partner for our customers.
Why are we the right investment?
We are building an energy industry leader with more than 150 years of unmatched experience. We have one of the broadest portfolios in the industry. And we have a clear plan for achieving our goals. The spin-off will give us the independence and flexibility we need to succeed. And we have a business that is highly relevant for humanity, for it is providing answers to major questions like: How can we supply people everywhere with electricity, tackle climate change and solve the challenge between sustainability, affordability and reliability of supply? An intensive phase of communication with the capital market is now under way. The next steps will be the publication of the company’s prospectus and our roadshow. Initial listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange is scheduled for September 28. And with an ambitious goal in mind: We want to make Siemens Energy the most valued energy technology company in the world.
