SIEMAG TECBERG Australia welcomes Turkish delegation to discuss the implementation of SIL

On 25.08.2022, SIEMAG TECBERG Australia was honoured to receive a visit from a Turkish delegation led by Prof. Dr. Güven ?nal, President of the Turkish Mining Development Foundation. He was joined by Dr. Hasan Hüseyin Erdogan and Mustafa Mert Ayaz of the General Directorate of Turkish Coal Enterprises, Muhammet Yasar Kara and Serkan ?mer Koc of Eti Bakir A.S. as well as ?mer Ismet Sengul, Zafer Gürler, and Halil Ibrahim ?zata of Tümad Mining.

Upon arrival, the delegation was invited to SIEMAG TECBERG Australia offices. Then, the group continued on to visit a mine site of our client SOUTH32 in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. This mine has the reputation of having one of the highest grades of coking coal and hence is sought after by many of the steel manufacturers around the world. Therefore, we are proud of having engineered, supplied and commissioned a SIL 2 rated drum winder including a SB1-2 brake power unit. This winder installation is a Drum Winder on a drift application (inclined shaft 2200m travel) fitted with a 48mm wire rope capable of a 54T end of rope mass, with a maximum speed of 4.5m/s.

In the context of risk assessment, the safety requirement level or safety integrity level (SIL) describes how pronounced individual measures must be in order to reduce the risk to which the product or system is exposed to a tolerable risk. SIL 3 is currently the highest security standard for shaft hoisting systems.

The Turkish delegation also looked at the mine entry as well as the mine conveyance that has 3 conveyances connect to the rope allowing transport of up to 120 men into the mine or the mine can remove these conveyance to attach flat top cars to allow materials to be transported into the mine. The coal is removed from the mine via a conveyor belt and hoisting system.

Upon completing the mine site visit, the delegation travelled back to the SIEMAG TECBERG Australia office to receive more information about the importance of SIL rated systems for mine winders. This concluded the visit of the Turkish delegation.
