What Are Care Home Managers Talking About?

Sick Pay Changes and The Impact on the Sector

The proposed policy change to introduce sick pay from day 1 has sparked significant conversation and concern among care home managers.

The Current Scenario

At present, employees in many sectors, including care homes, often face a waiting period before they are eligible for sick pay. This delay can create financial strain on workers who are already dealing with health issues. However, in a sector as critical as care homes, where the wellbeing of vulnerable residents is at stake, the implications of such policies are far-reaching.

Potential Implications of Day 1 Sick Pay

  1. Improved Employee Wellbeing and Retention
  2. Financial Strain on Care Homes
  3. Operational Challenges

The Bigger Picture

While the introduction of sick pay from day 1 offers clear benefits for employees, it also brings a complex set of challenges for care home managers. Striking the right balance between supporting staff wellbeing and maintaining financial and operational stability is crucial.

As this conversation continues, it is essential for stakeholders to collaborate, share insights, and develop strategies that address both the human and economic aspects of this policy change. The future of care homes depends on finding solutions that uphold the quality of care while ensuring fair and supportive working conditions for the dedicated staff who make it all possible.

I have long beleived the sector would hugely benefit by taking a Co-Operative approach regarding organisational ownership. Every indicator points towards benefiting the care sector. Attracting and staff retention, improved pay with Governement tax benefits of circa 4k per annum and improved outcomes by sharing in profitability. IMO the change required requires the CQC to both promote and support such activities upon new applications of registering a new business. Not a word from so called sector representative organisations, who are often lead by wealthy care sector providers, who have the audacity of asking for the tax payer to further fund their staff, whilst building property portfolios, it seens to be an elehpant in the room topic as is the current scenario of care providers still insisting on proof of vaccination, despite facts almost daily of the dnagers of the mRNA experiment we have recenlty endured, still being pushed by the NHS the very organisation we once repected and trusted. https://www.dhirubhai.net/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7217142161660596224/
