Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry
Building Businesses Building Communities
The Chairman and Board of Directors of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry extend their best wishes to all workers in Singapore on May Day, 2024.
This year’s May Day celebrations is special for the Chamber as we commemorate the centennial celebrations since the Chamber's inception as the Indian Merchant’s Association in 1924.
SICCI’s Chairman, Mr Neil Parekh , in expressing his deepest gratitude to Singapore’s workforce and the chamber’s members and their employees, said, “The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a partner in the progress of Singapore.” This progress would not have been possible without the dedication of our workers. As the Chamber commemorates 100 years in 2024, we are excited to dedicate our growth plans for the upcoming decade to all workers in Singapore.? This commitment reflects our appreciation for their hard work and their crucial role in our success.
SICCI would like to help workers improve their well-being and enhance their employability which will be the focus of the chamber’s team in future.
We encourage our member companies to send their workers for more retraining courses on the latest workplace developments that will revolutionize work.
Including adopting digitalisation and taking advantage of artificial intelligence, or AI?for short.
The training institutes in Singapore offer a wide range of courses, and SICCI’s business advisors are here to help companies connect their workers to these courses, ensuring they have the necessary skills for the future of work.
Many of these courses allow the Singaporean worker to utilise their Skills Future Credit to fund the courses.
The next area of focus is encouraging the large pool of retirees to return to the workforce. Their experience and wisdom are invaluable, and we believe that by staying active, they can continue to contribute to Singapore’s growth and your own well-being.
In the pipeline, a series of fireside talks with health experts and leaders involved in managing active ageing centres will give our members a glimpse of how they can encourage their retiree friends and their older workers to continue being employable and active. These talks will cover topics such as health and wellness, career transition, and financial planning for retirement.

Finally, we should go green and embrace sustainability.
And SICCI is committed to leading the way. We will be launching a series of sustainability initiatives, including workshops, resource sharing, and networking events, to help our members adopt sustainable practices in their businesses.
SICCI believes more needs to be done in public education on the importance of going green. It's not just about environmental responsibility, but also about improving company performance. We will be providing resources and hosting seminars to help our members understand how sustainability can enhance their company's reputation, attract investors, and reduce operational costs.
2024 will be historic for Singapore. The country will see a leadership transition to a new Prime Minister. But one thing remains: the government’s commitment to taking care of all workers and working hand in hand with employer groups, unions, trade associations, and chambers of commerce and industry. This continuity of leadership and commitment to the workforce provides a stable and supportive environment for our initiatives.
The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is committed to the motto that every worker matters to Singapore. We will continue to advocate for the rights and well-being of our workforce, and we look forward to a productive and prosperous future together.
Happy May Day 2024!
